From romantic getaways in Central Park to hiking a treacherous trail, we do it all. This past week, we ever so gracefully hiked a 6-mile hiking trail in Shenandoah National Park.

Although the hike was accomplished and the view was amazing I am going to share with you ways that will make your next hiking trip a walk in the park.

I will be the first to admit that I rarely bring the right shoes. We aren’t active hikers which, is why I have not found a reason to invest in a nice pair of hiking boots. The shoes I wore were tolerable. After a while, my feet hurt walking the 6-mile trail, and the grip of my shoes had worn away.

Bring water! Always bring more water than you think you need. For example, bring 3 bottles full of water for each person in your group.

Wear appropriate clothing. Be prepared to be in a wooded area that will have branches everywhere. The clothes you choose should be moveable and breathable. I wore leggings, a knit sweater, and my windbreaker while hiking. Wear layered clothing, that way you can remove as needed.

If it is warmer weather wear workout shorts. Wear a breathable shirt to avoid overheating while you are walking. I recommend bringing a towel to wipe your forehead too!

Remember, you will be walking A LOT! Avoid lowering your blood sugar, or passing out while hiking. Bring a light lunch and snacks to eat along the way.

Overall, hiking is one of my favorite activities. As a health lover, I find it rewarding to know that I can make it through a tough hike. The view is worth the hard work.
